Pursuits

Six disciplines, one operating system.

I do not have hobbies in the relaxing sense. I have disciplines. Each of these taught me something I use on a Monday morning, and I have written down exactly what.

The pattern is the same across all six. Each one gives honest feedback, punishes force, rewards preparation, and refuses to let you argue with the result. That combination is rare in professional life, where feedback is slow, political, and easy to explain away.

Golf taught me course management. Bowling taught me repeatability. Archery taught me precision and preparation. Fishing taught me hypothesis testing. Fly fishing taught me presentation. Offshore taught me risk management. Put together they are most of how I run a company.

Feedback you cannot argue with is the rarest thing in adult life.
